On this theme of 1300 numbers, I just wanted to put a little more information out there to answer the question on how 1300 number and 1800 numbers work.
Unfortunately, it’s not such a simple answer, we will need to discuss the basics of how the telephone network works in order to answer it.

I see a lot of questions on forums and such as to why businesses get 13,1300 or 1800 numbers.
Let’s clear it up by defining the pro’s and con’s. By the end of this I’m sure you will understand the businesses decision to get one.
First of, lets discuss the Cons:
- It costs more for mobile callers to call as the call type is outside of most capped plans.
- It costs money to have the service connect in terms of monthly fees and you pay per minute rates for every call you receive.
- 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers are local to Australia, so international callers cannot use them. The only option here is to have a international number listed.

Most business owners have never considered how the market percieves their business. Do they have a perception of being professional company staffed by a number of employees in some fancy office in a CBD area? or a garage husband and wife operation? Or a mobile in the ute which gets answered if someone on the jobsite hears it ring?
Most business owners have never considered how the market percieves their business. Do they have a perception of being professional company staffed by a number of employees in some fancy office in a CBD area? or a garage husband and wife operation? Or a mobile in the ute which gets answered if someone on the jobsite hears it ring?
Say for argument sake all the businesses mentioned above are very similar in terms of price and service. Purely based on perception from an advert, which business would you call? Most consumers choose to deal with the professional business.

The concept of a remote business is fantastic, its the dream for many people. Generally people who are working towards remote business are aiming for: Selling some sort of product or service through an automated process, sitting back on the beach with a laptop watching the money roll in. I have good news, such a business is possbile, however its not as easy as it sounds. You need to be prepared for the hard slog, you need to be prepared to learn and continue learning, and you need to be prepared to cough up a little cash.
I have put together 7 steps for starting & setting up a remote business.
